Black-Out T-Shirt Supports School Spirit
Students Call for Black-Out at NU Football Game

Lincoln, NE
October 19, 2006

Students are calling for a black-out during the Nebraska verses Texas football game this Saturday. That is, students are hoping a sea of black in their section will rally the blackshirts and lead to a victory against Texas.

Some time ago, a Husker defensive player asked the students to wear black in support of the Blackshirts. In an effort to gauge the popularity of the idea, two students posted the idea on Facebook and within 72 hours, nearly 5,000 students responded supporting the idea; less than ten thought the idea was bad. The Texas game was selected as the one to pull out all stops to support the team.

Jennifer Purvis, store manager, Nebraska Bookstore, said: "Based on the overwhelming response, the two students wanted to make a t-shirt that commemorated the event and approached our store with the idea of having the students vote on a shirt—we designed three and they voted for their favorite. Again, the participation was great and one shirt was selected. We thought this was a great opportunity to help support the students, school pride and NU football!"
