News "Tickets for Veterans" 2006-07 Program Announced Lincoln, Nebraska The Nebraska Bookstore today announced its "Tickets for Veterans" program as an opportunity to thank those who have, and continue to, serve our country. The program provides veterans the opportunity to attend the Nebraska vs. Colorado basketball game on Saturday, January 20th. "Many of us have family, friends and co-workers who are currently serving our country or have achieved veteran status,” said Barry Major, chief operating officer of Nebraska Book Company. "Needless to say, we owe these men and women a great deal. With 160,000 veterans in Nebraska, we feel 'Tickets for Veterans' is one small way Nebraska Book employees can say 'thank you' to those who have, and continue, to serve our country," said Major. Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) Kathryn Claypool, Air National Guard, Member of the 155th Air Refueling Wing, Lincoln, Nebraska, said: "After September 11th, the Nebraska Air National Guard was activated to support operations in Europe. I was part of the group deployed and remained overseas for a short tour. During that time, my family and I received a tremendous amount of support from our community including teachers at the children's school, our church, family, neighbors and friends. This support helped ease the long days without a second parent in the house to raise children." The "Tickets for Veterans" program includes the following:
The Nebraska Bookstore is donating 500 tickets to the game and sponsoring the pre-game event. Omaha Steaks is donating hamburgers and hotdogs for the celebration. Major Craig W. Strong, Army National Guard, Operations Officer for the 110th Medical Battalion, Lincoln, Nebraska, said: "I returned from Iraq, a little over a year ago, as the commander of a medical evacuation company and it was the support we received from friends, family, employers, community groups and private companies back home that made it possible for us to continue our mission and feel proud about our service. Thank you for your support of American Soldiers. In particular, I want to thank the Nebraska Book Company for sponsoring the Tickets for Veterans program. This program is a heartfelt expression of support that is deeply appreciated by every soldier and veteran." Veterans who are interested in taking part in the program can register for tickets in several ways:
Nebraska Bookstore is also accepting ticket donations. Donations can be made in the same manner as outlined above. In addition, to further recognize the contributions of veterans during this season of Thanksgiving, volunteers will be handing out more than 1,000 balloons to be released following the "National Anthem" and flyer over at the Nebraska/Colorado football game on Friday, November 24th. The Nebraska Bookstore will offer veterans a 50% discount on purchases made at the bookstore that day. "We are very excited to kick off this program and pleased that we are able to offer it a second year in a row," said Major. "We appreciate all veterans sacrifice to support our country and this is one small way for us to show our support." |
