UNLV Sophomore Selected as Grand Prize Winner

October 15, 2002

Last year, RebelBooks became a member of GotUsed, a network of college bookstores that provides access to the nation’s largest supply of used textbooks and participation in the GotUsed sweepstakes. The sweepstakes gives students the opportunity to win some fairly eccentric prizes.

Prizes awarded thus far have included night vision goggles, vibrating bed kits and custom-made personal action figures of the winners. Jack Williams, a sophomore at UNLV, was randomly selected as the grand prize winner. Jack chose between ten outrageous prizes that included a trip to the Running of the Bulls in Spain, a trip to Canada in search of Bigfoot and even his own NYC Hotdog Cart. Williams stated, “I’ve never ever won anything. Now I get to choose from ten of the greatest prizes ever to be given to anyone! Thank you GotUsed!” His favorite prize was the around-the-clock-bodyguards for one week, stating “I would love to have bodyguards watchin’ my back, showin’ people what happens if they mess with me, the Jackster.” In the end, he chose the $5,000 cash option and said that he might use some of it to hire one or two of his own bodyguards.

To be eligible for the sweepstakes, students sell back their books to RebelBooks and register on GotUsed.com. Chris Rodgers, Retail Director of Marketing and Promotions for GotUsed, said that these prizes were created to add some excitement to the tedious chore of buying and selling back books. Rodgers also noted that a new sweepstakes is underway. This February, one lucky student will be driving away with a completely customized early 80’s conversion van loaded with over $20,000 of electronics, including; two TVs, surround sound stereo system, an original Atari, Microsoft X-box, and extra loud air horn, just to name a few.
